Setting up your account

Signing in, two-factor authentication and inviting your team.

Signing in

You can sign in three ways:

  • With a passkey: your fingerprint, face or device PIN (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, your phone or a security key). Add one under Your account once you have signed in. It is the quickest and safest way: a passkey cannot be phished.
  • With Microsoft, using your work account. This is the quickest if your company uses Microsoft 365.
  • With your email and a password, plus a code from an authenticator app every time. This always works, even if you lose the device with your passkey.

Two-factor authentication is required for everyone who signs in with a password. Atom sends real email in your company's name, so a stolen password alone must never be enough.

Setting up two-factor authentication

  1. After you first sign in, Atom shows a QR code.
  2. Scan it with an authenticator app such as Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator or 1Password.
  3. Type the six digit code the app shows.
  4. Save your backup codes somewhere safe. Each one works once if you lose your phone.

Adding a passkey

  1. Open Your account and find Passkeys.
  2. Give it a name you will recognise, such as "Work laptop", and choose Add a passkey.
  3. Confirm with your fingerprint, face or PIN when your device asks.

Next time, choose Sign in with a passkey, or pick it from the email field. For your safety, a passkey can only be added within an hour of signing in; if Atom asks, sign out and in again first. Remove a passkey at any time, for example if you lose the device.

Owners and members

Each person in your company is an owner or a member.

  • Anyone can pause all sending, deal with items in Needs you, and send or stop a drafted reply.
  • Only owners can resume sending, approve the playbook, change working hours and manage the team.
